Biography

Education and Bar Certification


Joseph M. Zebas began his successful educational career at the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he lettered as a defensive back for the Wildcats football team. He was awarded the Golden Eagle Scholarship Award for athletic academic achievement in 1990 and 1991; the Mary Robbie Award for excellence outside the athletic academic area in 1992; and the Ball Hawk Award for Scholastic Excellence in 1992. He was also twice nominated for Outstanding Minority Student of the Year in 1992 and 1993, while also being a finalist for the Centennial Award for integrity and commitment to community in 1993 when he was awarded his Bachelor of Arts in History.

Attorney Zebas had a fellowship through the University of Michigan Child Welfare Law Program where he assisted in moving dependency through Juvenile Court in the Summer of 1996 before finishing his Juris Doctorate at the University of Arizona College of Law in Tucson.

Since then, he had passed the State Bar of New Mexico in 2002 and the State Bar of Arizona in 2002. He has also gained memberships to the following:

• The New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association
• The American Trial Lawyers of America

Community Service and Extracurricular

Attorney Zebas is dedicated to community service with the following:

• Teen Court Judge, 2011-2012
• Board Member of Lea County Teen Court, 2012
• Board Member of Head Start, Hobbs, NM, 2012
• Board Member of Sheri’s Memorial Fund, Inc. 2012
• Guest Speaker for Career Day, Hobbs Freshman School, 2010
• Guest Speaker for Constitution Day, Mills Elementary School, 2010
• Guest Speaker for Police Academy at NMJC, 2009, 2010

He also stays busy with extracurricular activities. He was a 1st Grade Catechism teacher for St. Thomas Catholic Church in Lovington, NM in 1998, as well as a Mock Trial coach for Lovington High School in the same year.

Attorney Zebas has E-License Soccer Certification and coached boys’ and girls’ soccer for kids aged under 7 to under 12 in Hobbs, NM from 2005 to 2011. He also served as football coach for Boys & Girls Club in Hobbs, NM from 2010-2012.
